Lenore in Stoke-Under-Land

Friday 5th March -

Had a few old University friends to meet up with this weekend so it was a long drive up to Stoke-on-Trent after work to arrive just in time for tea and a glass of wine in preparation for the rock pubs of my youth.

After a quick change into Lip Service pinstripe skirt and heels we headed out to The Rigger, me and one half of Uninvited Guest Lucas and Dean. We met up with some old friends and had a few pints - they even had Adnams on tap so I felt right at home. It was odd being back there, it was the first ever rock pub I went to when I started Uni at Keele. The Rock Society had their social there and it's where I met many of my friends.

After a few there we went on to another old watering hole The Full Moon, where I saw Hundred Reasons play just before they got big, amongst other bands, (I remember watching them and leaving early thinking they were rubbish.) Had a few pints in there and tried not to fall down the stairs to the smoking area (which looked a little like a prison) then after a quick arguement with the cab firm (who we probably can't call anymore) we got 'home'.

Instead of going to bed it was decided that we should open yet another bottle of wine and argue about religion and the general meaning of life over the kitchen table surrounded in a haze of menthol smoke. I don't really remember going to bed but I woke up there...

Saturday 6th March -

Was hungover mightily but was nursed with asprin, tea and a piano. The morning was odd, I had come to a scary realisation sat roudn the kitchen table in my pink skull pyjamas and was more than a little worried but the piano helped - it made me say things that I did not regret later.

Some breakfast/lunch and hangover gone it was time to start the afternoon. A quick trip into town to collect Uninvited Guests' new track (soon to be featuring on a compilation album with some other big name bands) and a stop for supplies for the party later it was already time for tea.

Quick change then to my old friends' new house for a few beers and a catch-up (I hadn't seen her for about 2 years) and giggles and some 'Eat Me' cake...or was it the other way round?

voodoo

Taxi's to Hanley to the Voodoo Lounge for their rock night where I bumped in to Asha from Dark Arts Agency, who represent me, as well as a few other faces.

We smoked on the balcony over-looking the bright lights of...Stoke and it was anyone's guess which toilets were which as the 'Men' and 'Women' signs seemed to be swapped every 10 minutes - I went into one ladies room only to emerge faced by a queue of fellas waiting for the 'gents'!! One guy gave up completely and used the balcony and gravity.

After dancing to some cheesy metal and drinking the bar dry of cheap lager we went home (with a different cab company). My heels negotiated the cobblestones and we ate leftovers before retiring....

Sunday 7th March -

Another lie in and then to the cinema to see Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland' in the town where I spent my second year of Uni - it hadn't changed a bit! Need to watch the film again because I wasn't sure whether I liked it or not...then back 'home' for a sunday roast and made excuses not to go to work tomorrow...
